Early in GREEN's work, the importance of agrobiodiversity and its role in food security became evident. When drought struck, some farmers in our service area were surprised to discover that the native crop varieties we encouraged them to plant were hardy and drought-resistant. In contrast, the high-yielding crop varieties had failed. We assist farmers in implementing sustainable soil management and various water conservation practices that protect the fragile ecosystems on their properties. We educate them on the negative effects of climate change on agriculture and teach them how to replace destructive farming methods with organic ones. Farmers are urged to plant native seed varieties as they are more resilient, better suited to the local climate, and require fewer chemical inputs. https://greenfoundation.in/why-we-do-this
