What you need to know when buying Cinnamon

More and more consumers are switching to Ceylon Cinnamon due to the ultra-low coumarin content. Coumarin is a natural substance contained in many plants. It is contained in relatively high concentrations in varieties of cinnamon collectively known as “Cassia cinnamon” which is sold as Cinnamon in the USA.

Cassia Cinnamon has 5% coumarin or 1200 time more coumarin than Ceylon Cinnamon’s 0.004% coumarin content.

The next time you buy Cinnamon check whether the Cinnamon is real Cinnamon or Ceylon Cinnamon and not Cassia.
